ODISSeA Project Kick-off Meeting Davao, Philippines. March 19th-21st 2019

From March 19th-21st, took place the Kick-off Meeting of ODISSeA – Organ Donation Innovative Strategies for Southeast Asia project in Davao (Philippines).

The meeting was hosted by Ateneo de Davao University, and a total of 40 professionals from 6 countries participated in the international meeting, representing the following institutions:

  • University of Zagreb, School of Medicine, Croatia
  • Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), Philippines
  • University of Santo Tomas (UST), Philippines
  • Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Malaysia
  • University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia
  • University of Medicine 1, Yangon (UMY), Myanmar
  • University of Medicine Mandalay (UMM), Myanmar
  • Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University (MU), Thailand
  • DTI Foundation (DTI), Spain
  • Dinamia S. Coorp., Spain

The main objectives, phases and actions were presented and discussed in workgroups.

During the meeting, the participants shared their observations and comments on the project’s management and structure, identified potential difficulties, defined clear procedures for the project’s overall management. The need for the project in Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand was also highlighted, alongside the value of the project’s outcomes.

The meeting was endorsed by the Philippine national authorities from the Philippine Network for Organ Sharing (PhilNOS), National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) – Human Organ Preservation Effort (HOPE) and the Thai Red Cross Organ Donation Center.

Additionally, on March 19th took place the official ODISSeA opening meeting for Ateneo de Davao, with representatives from PhilNOS, NKTI, the University of Barcelona, DTI Foundation and Dinamia.

The next meeting will take place in Barcelona for the “Train the Trainers” face-to-face course from May 13th – May 17th, 2019.
